Florida First Start

The Florida First Start program, through the Pinellas County School System, supports parents in their roles as their children's first teacher. The program works with the family until the child enters full time child care or kindergarten. Services offered include:

  • Home visits, in which the parent can learn to educationally enhance their children's play
  • Information on what parents can do now in order to help their child succeed in school
  • Assistance in cutting through red tape to access community services
  • Support to achieve educational and economic self-sufficiency
  • Free monthly parent meetings in Largo and Tarpon Springs
  • Free weekly playgroups where children learn through play and parents meet other parents with young children

Qualifications

  • Income below certain Federal guidelines
  • LIve north of Ulmerton Rd.
  • Have a child between birth and the third birthday who is not in full time child care
  • Have a parent who agrees to participate in home visits and other activities
